Looking through Peirson Place to the Royal Square

A short stretch of road leading from King Street to the Royal Square, Peirson Place was named after Major Francis Peirson, the hero of the Battle of Jersey, which was fought here in 1781

For many years this was wrongly spelt Pierson, along with the road at West Park and the public house just around the corner in the square, and also in many almanac entries, including the advertisement on this page, but the correct spelling of the family was eventually universally adopted
