A rural house of early 17th century origins which retains historic character, with a good survival of features of historic significance, including a tourelle staircase. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.

Notes and references

  1. There is confusion over the name of this area of St Brelade. The road is now known as Rue de La Valeuse, but there are properties on the road called La Valeure and La Valeuse. The latter is referred to throughout Old Jersey Houses Volume 2 as La Valleuse. The author wrote that valeuse was a Norman word for a small dry valley and valeure meant value or price. This spelling is found in records from 1774, 1786 and 1858, and OJH suggests that it is the correct form, without justifying this assertion
