Les Pres Manor, generations 7 to 11

The upper section of this tree was first published in 1999 in abridged form in Grouville – The History of a Country Parish. The tree was first included in Jerripedia in 2010 and enlarged the following year. Extra details - particularly dates - were added in 2018, based on a submitted tree, the whole tree was further reviewed twice in 2019, when more details and a new descendant line were added ^[1]

The tree still presents a number of unresolved problems: Later research has cast doubt on the descent from Sylvestre to four successive Jeans shown in the book, but we have now reverted to that descent, showing the second Jean married twice, to Priscilla Gasnier and Marguerite Bichard, followed by a son Jean married to Marie Vibert.

We have been able to resolve some of the problems surrounding George at generation 4 in the lower half of the tree.

It was confirmed in 2022 by Guy Dixon that the Le Maistre Seigneurs of St Jean, La Hougue Boete, do not form a part of this tree, as their family has been in St Peter from at least the start of the 14th century. Reasons are given under the heading Descendants of Jean Le Maistre - 3. They have now been removed from this tree.

The submitted tree shows Philip Le Maistre at generation 8 having two wives, but the dates given for the marriages and baptisms of children are clearly wrong, so we have ignored the suggested marriage to Marie Le Gresley and shown only the one child of the marriage to Elizabeth Le Masurier in whom we have reasonable confidence. However, as this branch of the family is shown living continuously in St Ouen, we are suspicious about the Le Maistre-Le Masurier marriage having been in Grouville, where a separate branch of the family was established

A further review in 2022 resulted in the addition of extra details and a descent from Adolphus at Gen 9

Yet another review in 2022, by Mike Bisson, in an attempt to establish the ancestry of the renowned 20th century linguist Frank Le Maistre, appears to have established that Edouard Le Marquand (1743- ) at generation 6 had a second wife from which marriage Frank Le Maistre was descended. There is no record of this marriage, but baptisms of their four grandchildren all show them as 'children of Edouard, son of Edouard, son of George' which would appear to confirm their place in this tree.
