This tree was researched by Janet Ferbrache in 1992, and names and dates were added by the Jerripedia team in 2018

The tree was further reviewed in 2021 and 2023 by Guy Dixon and Mike Bisson and a descendant line was added from Clement (1822- ) at generation nine.

Another 2021 review by Mike Bisson resulted in the addition of a descendant line from William Charles Renouf (1940- ) at generation nine

A further review by Mike in 2022 resulted in the addition of further names

Renouf family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

  14. Merchant, at one-time of Chandos House, Rue de Galet, St Lawrence. Thomas Renouf was a Justice of the Peace for the Fortune Bay District, Newfoundland 1845-- and was for many years a Nicolle and Company manager and agent. He formed in 1854 his own company in the Newfoundland fisheries, which was merged in 1863 with that of Abraham de Gruchy, to form "De Gruchy, Renouf and Clement" of Burgeo, La Poile and Jersey. The partnership was from 1873-1886 Jersey`s leading Newfoundland concern, owning at one time twenty-two sailing vessels, with fisheries located at Burgeo, La Poile, Channel and Fortune Bay, on the south coast, with other sites on the west coast. In the the 1901 CI Census, he and his second wife Lillias were Boarding House keepers in St Helier. Had his Shipping business gone bankrupt?? For the answer to this question, see Abraham de Gruchy's successors
  15. Thomas Renouf junior was aged 7 in 1851. He was intended for his father`s firm and therefore sent to sea at an early age. He was an apprentice aboard Medina of London (Shepherd & Co.), and then Boatswain (1865) of De Gruchy, Renouf, Clement & Company`s brig Canada. He was Mate of the Jersey vessel Tickler (1866) in the Paspebiac fish trade, of Enmore and of Alumbagh both being of London (1867), but returned to his certified rating of 2nd Mate for the latter ship`s voyage to Calcutta and back (1867-1870). He gained his 3rd Mate`s and 2nd Mate`s Certificates, the latter in 1867, but found instead, by 1871, employment ashore as a commercial clerk, perhaps initially in the employment of his father`s partnership: UK and Ireland, Masters and Mates Certificates.. at www.ancestry.co.uk. His marriage in that year may have contributed to the change in career
