2. ↑ Chef Sergent of St Martin, 1587-- C.H.5/184 (18 January 1587/8): “Collas Noel a este sermente..Chef Sergent de St Martin a la decharge des heritages [de] Jeanne, sa mere, fille Jean Bertram, fils Raulin”. Translated: “Collas Noel has been sworn in as Chef Sergent of St Martin, in discharging the duties [attached] to the inheritance of Jeanne, his mother, daughter of Jean Bertram, son of Raulin”. The `sergenté`, and the property so called, La Sergenté, was thus brought into this branch of the Noel family through the female line, in this case of the Bertram family, who will have previously held both the office and property of this name
