Descendants of Nicolas Martel

This tree was sent to Jerripedia editor Mike Bisson many years ago and added to the site in 2014 and reviewed on a number of occasions since. However, nothing has yet been found which supports the suggestion that Nicolas at the top of the tree was born in Jersey, nor his supposed ancestry shown in many online trees. Eight years down the line those trees still quote each other as sources and no documentary proof appears to have been found to support the sections of this tree which predate parish church records

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Nicolas is described as Nicolas Martel de Lamontagne, the son of Charles and Lucrece. He was supposedly born in 'St Brelade, Bailliage de Jersey, Normandy, France', which makes no sense, and to have had sisters Francoise and Catherine, the first born in St Brelade, the second in Dordogne, France
