This tree was added to the site within days of its launch in March 2010. It has been updated on a number of occasions since and reviewed in 2019, and again in 2020, when greater detail was added. Early generatons, which predate church records, are progressively being confirmed from other sources

Bisson family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Sister of Pierre, of St Brelade
  2. Constable of St Brelade, 1555-1566
  3. Constable of St Brelade, 1601-1615
  4. There are probably descendants of this family
  5. Of Millais; Constable of St Ouen, 1652-1655, then Jurat under Cromwell, 1655-1660. The Armorial of Jersey, under Le Feuvre, erroneously ascribes this Philippe to the Le Feuvre family of St Peter: see Descendants of Jasper Le Feuvre. Philippe and Marie, née Bisson, his first wife, had a family, extinct in the male line shortly afterwards but represented in a female line by the Giffard family of Trinity
  6. Messervy has her as having married Matthieu Le Feuvre of Millais, as his first wife and dying without issue: printed Genealogy of Le Feuvre, of Millais
  7. The Extente of 1668 describes him as "Leonard Bisson, fils Thomas, fils Pierre"
  8. Marriage record not found, yet Messervy had the year and month: ABSJ XI 102, note
  9. Ibid. This branch of the Bisson family continued in St Peter
  10. Constable of St Brelade, 1587-1591 and 1593-1601, also Constable of St Lawrence, 1604-1616, where he had settled. Edouard was from 1600 Seigneur, in part, of the Fief Luce de Carteret
  11. Daughter of Edouard
  12. Daughter of Edouard
  13. Marriage record not found
  14. Seigneur of the Fief Luce de Carteret, Constable of St Lawrence, 1616-1621
  15. Baptismal record not found because the St Lawrence registers for that date have not survived. The placement is based upon court records. Benjamin was Constable of St Lawrence, 1629, Jurat in 1631 and Parliamentary Commissioner, 1643
  16. Marriage record not found but multiple references in the Jersey Land Registry
  17. Edouard was Seigneur of the Fief Luce de Carteret, Constable of St Lawrence, 1671-1677; Jurat 1677-1682
  18. Rector of St Mary

  23. Of what was originally a St Ouen family, he was Rector of St Peter, 1742-1788. His family inherited the Fief Luce de Carteret
  24. A Picot descent, erroneously shown here from a supposed second wife of Benjamin Bisson, and now removed, can be seen at Descendants of Josue Picot (1690)
  25. Constable of St Lawrence, 1770-1773. He died without issue
  26. Rector of St Clement, 1746-1748; Rector of St Lawrence, 1748-1782 and of St Brelade, 1782-1783
