Descendants of Macy Le Couteur (1466- )

Information on the family of Macy Le Couteur has been extracted from sources at the library of La Société Jersiaise. Some of these sources were derived previously from primary and secondary archived documents researched by earlier genealogists in Jersey, such as J A Messervy and C Langton. Macy Le Couteur was witness to an official enquiry in St Mary in 1536 when he gave his age as ‘about 70’. (Extente 1569). Many of the early dates are only approximate within a few years, but are provided for guidance. Others, taken directly from parish records are more precise, but have been adjusted as appropriate to the Gregorian calendar prior to 25 March 1752.

This branch of the Le Couteur lineage discontinued beyond Jean, who died in 1727, aged 77, and there are no Le Couteur descendants now living. Both of his children died in infancy. His father, also named Jean, who lived to be 70, was married to a distant Le Couteur relative, Priscille, as was also his grandfather, Laurens, who married Jeanne Le Couteur, daughter of a fourth cousin in what may have been his second marriage, when Jeanne was much younger than he was.
