This tree was added to the site in 2016. It superseded the earlier Descendants of Francois Mathurin Le Fondre, which was from a different source. That tree has now been deleted. This tree was reviewed in 2019 and several extra generations added at the top from French records. The tree was previously headed by Isaac Le Fondre (1828- ) from Ploeuc-sur-Lie, but it now seems more likely that the father of Francois Mathurin (1848- ) was Jean Francois Marie. But whether he is the individual shown at generation 9 in this tree is far from certain.

The surname was spelt Leffondre in all early French records, but Le Fondre is the version shown in Jersey records.

Although the early generations of this tree are supported by French records, the forenames Jean, Francois Mathurin and Mathurin Francois appear with such regularity during the 18th and early 19th century in this area of Cotes d'Armor, that it is quite possible that the lineage has been confused. It is certainly questionable whether the Jean Marie Francois Leffondre, whose baptism is shown in Sevignac in 1849, is the Francois Marie Leffondre who is known to be the father of the first generation born in Jersey, but is said to have been born in Ploeuc-sur-Lie, some 20 kilometres to the west.

  1. ↑ This is the most problematic relationship in the tree. It is by no means certain that this Jean Marie Francois Leffondre is the originaire of the Jersey family - who was known as Francois Marie Le Fondre, or Francois Mathurin Le Fondre. This has all the hallmarks of finding a French ancestor of a similar name and guessing at a link to a Jersey family. Although the Le Fondres of Ploeuc-sur-Lie are well documented, there is no obvious evidence of a link to the family at Sevignac

  3. ↑ This generation has led to further confusion because Anne Marie Francoise, born in St Mary, the daughter of Francois Mathurin, married Mathurin Francois Le Fondre, from Plemy, an adjacent commune of Ploeuc-sur-Lie where her family originated. It is likely that the couple were cousins, although how closely they were related before marriage is uncertain
