Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

A building of early origins, possible a rare survival of a detached medieval kitchen - although altered - retaining circa 15th century historic features in the round arch and the two corbelled fireplaces.

Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795. Rebuilt on south side in the early 19th century.

Detached circa 15th century two storey, four-bay building. Original entrance hard on to road.

Round arch with chamfer stops (with small inserted keystone and jamb stones to heighten and widen), now blocked. Evidence of a six-stone window opening over arch. Evidence of vehicular brick arch to east, now blocked with 20th century window opening.

On west gable there is a granite corbelled fireplace, monolith jambs heightened with small stones under corbels, monolith lintel (hood removed, chimney blocked). On east gable evidence of corbelled granite fireplace in corbels and overhang now encased in render.

Not included, although if estimate of age is correct, the building should have featured in Volume 1
