Origins of surname

This name, more commonly spelt Boizard in Jersey, but Boisard in France, is from the west of the country. It is derived from bois = 'wood' indicating either a forestry worker, or a deceitful person

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was in early 20th century baptisms, but the family was present in Grouville as early as the 1870s, when children would probably have had a Catholic church baptism. This is one of 27 Jersey families we have so far identified as originating in the north Brittany town of Ploeuc-sur-Lie
