Origin of Surname
The name was first used as a Christian name, after Saint Albinus, Bishop of Angers in the 7th century AD, and developed into a surname. It is found in the Assize Roll of 1309 and the Jersey Chantry Certificate of 1550 contains three Aubins.
Early records
The International Genealogical Index shows Marin Aubin born in St Saviour about 1470 and marrying in 1498, fathering children Benoiste, Catherine, Charles, Genette, Jean, Thomas and Marin.
Although there are only eight Aubin entries in the current Jersey telephone directory, the family was one of the most numerous in the island for several centuries and there are over 2300 entries in the IGI.

Family trees
The first two trees overlap, but come from different sources. The second has more descendant lines. The third, added in 2013, contains more detail and follows roughly the same descent. The fourth, added in 2015, is from a separate source. It should be noted that these trees are lacking in details and there are considerable variations between each as far as certain parts of the Aubin lineage are concerned. This is particularly important when researching one or more of the various Clement Aubins to be found in the trees

The dairy and general store at 54 St Saviour’s Road opposite Pleasant Street. The shop still exists. It was run by Harold Edward Aubin, who was a Centenier of St Helier at one time, and his wife, Clarice, nee nee Le Moignan. Her father, Alphonse Gustave Le Moignan, was a successful grower of tomatoes in St Clement and, being a French national, was one of the first to sail from Jersey to fight in The Great War. Also in the photo (right) is Harold (Harry) Edward Aubin, jnr. He was born January 1929 so the photograph was probably taken in 1931. Harold and son are pictured with with their delivery van. During the Occupation Harold used a bicycle to deliver milk. Harold jnr became a teacher in later life, best remembered for his time at Hautlieu - Aubin family tree

These three images relate to the induction of Jean Marie Aubin as Bishop of the Solomon Islands in 1935. We have not been ascertain whether his ancestry was in Jersey or in nearby France

Jean Aubin (1788-1848), son of Abraham, and Jeanne, nee Le Caumais, of St Saviour, an 1840 portrait in the Jersey Heritage collection hanging in the St Helier Registry Office ...
Alfred Jackson Aubin, born in St Clement in 1843. He bears a striking resemblance to William John Aubin, whose picture was added before this one, which is not surprising, because they were brothers

A real postal rarity: A postcard sent from Russia to Mrs Aubin, at Gorey, in 1906. Our language skills have not deciphered the town on the postmark. We think the recipient was probably the widowed Mary Susan Aubin, nee Bertram, who lived in Gorey Village with her son John, a golf professional with the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Mary was married to Philip George Aubin

Tips
The church record links above will open in a new tab in your browser and generate the most up-to-date list of each set of records from our database. These lists replace earlier Family page baptism lists, which were not regularly updated. They have the added advantage that they produce a chronological listing for the family name in all parishes, so you do not have to search through A-Z indexes, parish by parish.
We have included some important spelling variants on some family pages, but it may be worth searching for records for a different spelling variant. Think of searching for variants with or without a prefix, such as Le or De. To search for further variants, or for any other family name, just click on the appropriate link below for the first letter of the family name, and a new tab will open, giving you the option to choose baptism, marriage or burial records. You will then see a list of available names for that type of record and you can select any name from that list. That will display all records of the chosen type for that family name, and you can narrow the search by adding a given name, selecting a parish or setting start and end dates in the form you will see above. You can also change the family name, or search for a partial name if you are not certain of the spelling
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the yellow Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.
New records
Since August 2020 we have added several thousand new records from the registers of Roman Catholic, Methodist and other non-conformist churches. These will appear in date order within a general search of the records and are also individually searchable within the database search form
